Electrification of Heat Demonstration Project – EHDP

On 28 August 2019 the Government announced its Electrification of Heat Demonstration Project.

According to BEIS, the Electrification of Heat Demonstration Project looks to test the feasibility of a large-scale roll-out of heat pumps in a representative range of 750 British homes.

The objectives are to:

• develop, test and evaluate innovative products and services that increase the appeal of heat pumps and identify optimal solutions for a wide range of homes
• demonstrate that heat pumps, including gas-electric hybrids, can deliver high consumer satisfaction across a wide range of consumers in Great Britain
• demonstrate the practical and technical feasibility of heat pumps, including gas-electric hybrids, across Great Britain's diverse housing stock
• capture learning from the project to help improve awareness across the heating supply chain, raise acceptance and support wider deployment of heat pumps in Great Britain

Some £16.5m will be made available as part of the BEIS Energy Innovation Programme's Electrification of Heat Demonstration Project.

ICAX welcomes the Electrification of Heat Demonstration Project

ICAX welcomes the new BEIS project to allocate £16.5m "to raise acceptance and support wider deployment of heat pumps in Great Britain".

Heat pumps provide the only proven route to decarbonising heating in the initial steps toward Net Zero by 2050.

Heat pumps issue no CO₂ on site, and no CO₂ at all if the electricity used is from a renewable source of electricity.

Heat pumps also issue no NO₂ and can therefore contribute to the drive towards cleaner air in our cities.

ICAX also warmly welcomes the conclusion of Energy Systems Catapult, published on 16 December 2021, that, "Heat pumps suit all homes".
